Dear Team Captains
TC10K and Frontrunners present Running Legend and Motivational Speaker Dick Beardsley – Invite all your team members…What a great way to get your team motivated!
Motivational speaker Dick Beardsley will be in Victoria on Wednesday, March 24 to give an inspirational talk about his life as a runner and his subsequent battle against pain killers. His presentation called ‘Staying the Course’, will be held at the Alix Goolden Hall, 907 Pandora Avenue at 7.30 pm, tickets are $5 and can be purchased from the TC10K office or at the door if tickets are still available. Please call and reserve your tickets today at 250.744.5538.
Beardsley is famous for his ‘Duel in the Sun’ with Alberto Salazar at the 1982 Boston Marathon. Finishing just two seconds behind Salazar, this was one of the most memorable moments in marathon history and the closest finish in a premier marathon. Both athletes broke the course and American records and Beardsley became an overnight sensation.
After retiring from running he suffered a near-fatal farming accident which began a string of events that led him to become addicted to pain killers. His story of how he gradually overcame his addiction is passionate and inspirational.
“Having worked with runners and speakers for events for over 30 years, Dick is the most exceptional and down to earth guy who constantly gives back to everyone he encounters,” says Rob Reid, owner of Frontrunners. “He has had struggles and has overcome challenges many of us could not imagine. He truly gives a gold medal performance every time he speaks.”
“Listening to Dick will be great motivation for everyone training for the TC10K,” says Race Director Jacqui Sanderson. “His amazing story will inspire all runners and we know that everyone will benefit from hearing him speak.”
